FIVE THINGS TO WATCH VS PURDUE

NUMBER 4 – WHICH RUN GAME ARE WE GETTING?

The Nebraska football run game was sensational in their season opener against Colorado, but it’s gone downhill in both games since then. This past week against Michigan was hopefully as bad it can get with the Husker backs, who put up just 39 yards rushing on the day. Yikes.

Even worse than that was that backup quarterback Andrew Bunch not only led the team in rushing on Saturday, but tallied 23 of those 39 yards. I wish I was kidding, folks.

The three main backs – Greg Bell, Devine Ozigbo, and Maurice Washington – combined for a total of ten yards off of 15 carries. TEN YARDS. That is unacceptable for a team with as much potential offensively that Nebraska has.

It’s not like the Huskers completely abandoned the run either (though it didn’t help that they were down 39-0 at half time), carrying the ball 30 times. There is absolutely no reason why a team who was able to rush for over 300 yards two weeks ago couldn’t get more than 40 this past weekend.

I get that the Michigan defense is solid, but they were vulnerable against the run when they played SMU the week prior. They surrendered over 100 yards on the ground in that game yet Nebraska couldn’t get more than 39 stinking yards. Pathetic.
