Coaching situation

We just finished talking about “rookie” quarterbacks and their first year in the NFL. Not only are those quarterbacks not nearly as prepared for their first season, but most of those quarterbacks also have not had the coaching staff that Patrick Mahomes has.

How many quarterbacks on the list of poor rookie seasons had a bad coaching staff? Look at the Cleveland Browns who continue to start rookie quarterbacks without much coaching around them. Having a coach that can build an offense around a young quarterback and build it to his strengths is enormous.

According to an article on the NFL website, Reid ranks seventh among active coaches. There’s no doubt that Reid can build an offense to fit Mahomes. He’s made offenses to rebuild careers and start careers for just about every style of quarterback. He tailored the offense for Donovan McNabb, changed it to fit Michael Vick when he returned to the NFL, and then again with guys like Nick Foles and Alex Smith.

Reid is arguably one of the top offensive minds in the league. His ability to design plays that scheme routes open is remarkable. While his play calling is questionable at times, there’s no doubt that he can provide an offense for Mahomes to succeed in.
