Darrel Williams

My favorite of the new running backs that I would like to see make the roster is an undrafted free agent out of LSU, Darrel Williams. While Darrel spent his college career backing up Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice, he has plenty of production and tape to get excited about. Honestly, I’m surprised he went undrafted.

Just last season backing up Guice, Williams put up 820 yards of his own which are only 400 less than the starting running back. His senior season was when he saw the most production with 145 attempts and averaged a career-best 5.7 yards per carry which was higher than Guice. He also came away with nine touchdowns on the ground last season as a backup running back.

Williams might need to be tested in the passing game come training camp and preseason with only catching 23 passes last season. He added 331 yards to his total production through the air last season putting him at 1,151 yards from scrimmage. Those are great numbers considering he’s a backup.

I would love to see Kansas City hold onto Darrel Williams as the third running back. He’s played backup to some great running backs at LSU and has playmaking ability of his own. I think he would be a great addition to the new offense and bring some power running. If you watch his tape, Darrel is a between the tackles runner that fights for every yard. Given Ware’s injury history, it would be smart for the Chiefs to keep Williams around to have another between the tackles runner.
