BEST GAMES OF THE ANDY REID ERA

NOVEMBER 3RD, 2013 VS BUFFALO BILLS

This game makes the list for one reason: It gave the Kansas City Chiefs their ninth straight win of the season and they started the year 9-0 for the first time since 2003. After going 2-14 the year prior, Chiefs fans would have been happy with six or seven wins, but Reid helped the Chiefs go above and beyond that in his inaugural season.

The Chiefs and Bills had become sort of mini rivals over the years, as the two faced off in six straight seasons in 2013. The Bills seemed to always have KC’s number, blowing them out in the season opener in 2011 and handing it to them again in 2012.

In 2013, the Chiefs were 8-0 when their game against the Bills came and it wouldn’t have shocked anyone if Buffalo was the team to hand Kansas City its first L of the season. Instead, the Chiefs won 23-13 and really took control of the game in the second half.

The Bills were up 10-3 at the half, but the Chiefs took over from there and didn’t slow down. Sean Smith picked off Jeff Tuel (lol who) and returned it 100 yards for the Chiefs’ first touchdown of the day. Tamba Hali would then recover a fumble for a touchdown and those were Kansas City’s only two touchdowns that day.

  • Alex Smith had an Alex Smith type of day, throwing for just 124 yards with no touchdowns and no picks.
  • Jamaal Charles rushed for 90 yards.
  • Dwayne Bowe led the day with 67 receiving yards.
  • As mentioned above, the Bills had Jeff Tuel starting for them at quarterback. Tuel completed 18 passes out of 39 attempts for 229 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
  • Kendrick Lewis and Sean Smith had the two interceptions.
  • Future Chief (and then not Chief and then Chief again and then not Chief and you get the idea) C.J. Spiller rushed for 116 yards while Fred Jackson put up another 77 yards on the ground.
  • Marquise Goodwin had the lone offensive touchdown of the game for either side.
  • Ryan Succop kicked three field goals.

While this game wasn’t the most riveting (unless you enjoy field goals), it put the Kansas City Chiefs at 9-0 on the year. The team might have been a bit fraudulent in getting to that point, but Reid showed he could take advantage of weaker opponents and led his new team to a 9-0 record in his first year.
