Release Demetrius Harris

The move most Chiefs fans would probably have already done is to cut backup tight end Demetrius Harris. Harris is loved by the coaches but pretty well despised by the majority of the fan base.

Growing up as a kid in the 90’s the token response for someone who couldn’t catch was to say they had Christian Okoye Hands. Kids growing up today are told they have Harris hands. For a player with some great moments to his name, he’s known more for the catches he doesn’t make.

Harris was picked up as an undrafted free agent in 2013 and has been one of Andy Reid’s pet projects ever since. He’s got the size and ability to be a solid tight end in the league, and if you hadn’t heard he played basketball in college. But his issue in his five seasons with the Chiefs is his ability to catch the football.

Harris has been a good backup tight end because he is always open. The problem is that he also seems to drop the ball more than he catches it and that is so frustrating for fans to watch. Despite being wide open most fans cringe when they see the ball floating his way, even though he has made game winning catches against the Denver Broncos.

Harris is set to make $2.3 million this season if he’s on the roster. The team however could move on from him and save $1.9 million. Most likely they would need to upgrade the position, so the cap space would be spent on the position. But most people think they need an upgrade there anyway, so least save some money for that upgrade.
