1991 NCAA TOURNAMENT

When Danny Nee took the job as the head coach of the Nebraska basketball program, he certainly had his hands full, but he was able to turn things around. It took him until his fifth year to get the Huskers into the big dance, but he got them there five times total.

The first came in 1991 when Nebraska finished their season with an overall record of 26-8 and a conference record of 9-5, good for third in the Big 8. The Huskers finished the year ranked 11th in the country and fans were ecstatic at the success their squad had achieved.

Nebraska went 2-2 against ranked opponents, but had one of their best conference tournament appearances in school history. The Huskers took care of business against Oklahoma in overtime, then beat Kansas, but would ultimately lose to Missouri.

Xavier ended Nebraska’s season in the first round of the tournament. Losing in the tournament didn’t hurt much that year though, as Nebraska was just happy to be in the big dance.
