5 reasons expectations should be high in 2018

1. Patrick Mahomes

I’ll address this right off the bat. Yes there is a chance that Patrick Mahomes struggles this season. I will not deny that fact. There is a chance. Where i struggle with that notion is the origin of that belief.

Is it because the Chiefs haven’t drafted a starting quarterback in some reader’s lifetime. Maybe the Chiefs have done so little with the talent they’ve had in the last four decades that the opinion is just inherited?

In all actuality there is absolutely no reason to assume Mahomes will struggle. The cliché of not being ready should have faded away long ago. Year after year quarterbacks are thrown into the flames, usually one or two make it out just fine.

Just in 2017, before he got hurt, Deshaun Watson was having an MVP type season. Watson’s Texans had far less talent the Chiefs did, or even will have. So either Watson is the second coming of Christ, or he’s going to be a good quarterback. What made Watson so ready? Why is it that the quarterback position is literally the only one that people like to claim players won’t be ready.

It’s all fake news.

What to expect

Mahomes, without argument, impressed in every opportunity he had. He displayed talents unseen by many. He has proven his salt by performing high with second and third string players. Don’t forget his comeback win against a mixed group of first and second string guys in Denver either.

The weapons at his disposal are so good that you or I could probably gain some yards.

There is only reason to expect Pat to be really good. Not once was there any feeling that this kid wasn’t going to be. The team is now his.
