BEST K-STATE BASKETBALL COACHES: NUMBER 3 – JACK HARTMAN

Coached at K-State from 1970-1986 (Record: 294-170)

The top three coaches for the Kansas State hoops program were all incredible coaches, so it was very difficult to put one above the other. Jack Hartman could easily be considered the best ever, but we’ll put him at number three.

Hartman has the best win percentage for K-State hoops with .634 and a 294-170 record during that time. He got the Wildcats to the tournament in seven seasons, which is the most of any coach at Kansas State ever.

In four of those seven appearances, Kansas State made it to the Elite Eight. Now granted, tournaments weren’t as lengthy back in Hartman’s coaching days as they are now, but four Elite Eight appearances is nothing to scoff at.

Hartman also led the Cats to three regular season Big 8 conference championships and two conference tournament championships. He was easily one of the best ever at Kansas State, but I ultimately put him at number three because he, unlike the two above him, never made it past the Elite Eight.

While Jack Hartman was a tremendous coach, the two ranked higher than him were both able to get to the Final Four, and both did so twice during their time in Manhattan.
