Kansas City Chiefs: Replacing Bob Sutton
#6 Gary Gibbs: LB Coach – Chiefs
Prior to this season, there was actually a good deal of chatter about the possibility of Gary Gibbs as the next Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator. However, that talk has definitely cooled off some as the Chiefs continue to struggle at linebacker. Still, if KC is looking for continuity after Bob Sutton, this move makes a lot of sense. Especially since the Chiefs once blocked Gibbs from interviewing for a coordinator job in Washington.
Gary Gibbs has been in Kansas City for a long time, being one of the few coaches to survive the regime change when Andy Reid came to town. He has also been coaching for a long time, so there is a resume to pin to all of this. I don’t know if that is enough for the Chiefs to give Gibbs the job, but it will be a major point.
On the other hand, can anyone point to any of our linebackers and say that is where Gary Gibbs made his mark? That is what is hanging me up on this decision, and I’m having a hard time getting past it. That’s not all on Gibbs, but some of it is. However, keeping continuity with this group could very well be what is most important.
