Kansas City Chiefs: Replacing Bob Sutton
#2 James Bettcher: Defensive Coordinator – Cardinals
One of the best ways the Kansas City Chiefs can find an established defensive coordinator is to look at teams making regime changes. That is the case with James Bettcher in Arizona, who is very highly regarded. In fact, Bettcher is who now-retired Arizona head coach Bruce Arians wants as a successor.
James Bettcher has done a tremendous job of keeping the Cardinals as one of the best defenses in the NFL. He’s aggressive and likes to attack opposing quarterbacks from a variety of angles. That is something that should absolutely appeal to Kansas City. If the Chiefs were to grab Bettcher, it would be considered a steal.
However, James Bettcher is definitely a strong candidate for a head coaching job. Plus, even if he isn’t hired for a top job, there is no guarantee he would automatically be out in Arizona. Those are some major hurdles the Chiefs would have to get past. I do think that Bettcher is worth the work to make it happen though.
