Kansas City Chiefs: Alex Smith’s Next Team

#9: Washington Redskins

I have a hard time seeing the Washington Redskins letting Kirk Cousins go and taking Alex Smith from the Kansas City Chiefs. Then again, if I were running the Redskins, I would have gotten Cousins on a new contract quite a while ago. They have mismanaged this situation to the point that Smith might be their best option.

Understand that there is absolutely no way the Redskins should let Kirk Cousins leave in free agency…

…so when he leaves in free agency, Washington will have to find an answer. I know that the leadership of the Redskins would prefer someone much flashier than Alex Smith. However, Jay Gruden may have just enough pull to bring in a veteran like Smith to help guide the way for a high draft pick.

I doubt the Redskins would be willing to pay much for Alex Smith though. This front office clearly doesn’t understand how to properly value a quarterback. So you can expect them to be coming in with a low ball offer, that will probably be laughed at by Chiefs GM Brett Veach. Still, the possibility is there.
