#3 Fine Tuning The Postseason Gameplan

Look, this game is essentially a throwaway session for the Kansas City Chiefs. They can use that   to pad stats, get young players some work, or use it as a work up to the playoffs. There is no doubt that the Chiefs coaching staff will be making some tweaks ahead of the postseason. This last game would be a chance to work on some things in a live game.

This is actually something that is pretty common in the NFL. While some coaches rest their players, others see this as a tune up opportunity. That may come with a heightened risk for injuries, but there are many coaches who view that as an acceptable risk ahead of the playoffs.

Traditionally, Andy Reid has not used this approach. We’ve seen in the past that Reid likes to rest his players. That includes the 2013 season when Alex Smith was given Week 17 off, and Chase Daniel was called on to start. For what it’s worth, the Chiefs went on to lose in the first round of the playoffs that year. Maybe Reid has decided it’s more important for the team to keep its edge…
