Kansas City Chiefs: 5 reasons Patrick Mahomes will not start Sunday

It might sound ridiculous, but don’t believe for a second that awards don’t matter to professional athletes. That goes for the several Kansas City Chiefs that have a shot at some postseason NFL hardware this year. If some of these players make a plea for it, Andy Reid may very well let them get out there and try.
One of those players is Alex Smith, who (believe it or not) could still make a play for NFL MVP. Yes, Smith is most definitely a long shot for the league’s highest honor. However, a 4000 yard passer on a playoff team is almost always going to be in the running. If the Chiefs quarterback finishes the season with one more strong game, he could make his move.
Now, this is most definitely the least likely of the reasons why Patrick Mahomes wouldn’t start on Sunday. It would take this along with probably a couple other things to make Andy Reid go with Alex Smith on Sunday. It’s still something to consider though, and it coincides with our next reason…
