Is Drew Lock the Chosen One?

The biggest story coming out of last week’s game against Missouri State was the success of the Missouri Tigers offense. More specifically the success of quarterback Drew Lock.

If you (somehow) haven’t heard, Lock set school records in both passing yards (521) and touchdowns (7) accumulated in a single game. In addition, Lock was also named SEC Offensive Player of the Week.

Tiger fans have every right to up their expectations for Lock and the offense following that performance. Obviously, no one’s expecting those kind of gaudy stats every week but expectations still have increased.

Moving forward, it’s likely going to be up to the Missouri offense to keep the Tigers in tight games. That is unless the defense shows stark improvement and fast. Lucky for the Tigers, South Carolina’s defense didn’t look crisp in week one against the Wolfpack.

It’s likely going to be up to the Missouri offense to keep the Tigers in tight games.

Ryan Finley, hardly a household name, put up 415 yards of passing on the Gamecocks last week. Not only were Carolina’s cornerbacks not getting the job done in the secondary but the defensive line didn’t put any pressure on Finley until late in the game.

If the Tigers can show the same kind of offensive firepower as last week, Mizzou definitely has a chance of victory.

That leads into my next point though as for Mizzou to win, the black and gold’s defense needs to step up against a talented Carolina offense.
