Fantasy Football Tight Ends to Target in 2017 – Number 14: COBY FLEENER

2016 Ranking: 15th

With a full season in New Orleans under his belt, expect Coby Fleener to razzle and dazzle at the tight position for Drew Brees and the Saints. Last season, Fleener managed to put up 137.3 points throughout the year and was either really good or really bad each week. There usually wasn’t a “middle of the road” performance from Fleener.

Year two should spell more success for the Stanford alum. He started to piece together nice games last year, but only found the end zone three times for the black and gold. With Brees as his quarterback and a nice offensive unit in general, expect Fleener to get more red zone targets this season.

Like Julius Thomas, Fleener is not worth gambling on until the very late rounds and I wouldn’t recommend having him as your week one starter unless you’re forced into it. Fleener could end up being a great bench player for you, but it could take a few weeks for him to heat up in that Saints offense.

Brees likes to spread the football around and that’s why Coby Fleener isn’t as good of a tight end choice as some of the top guys on this list. Brees has other prolific weapons like Michael Thomas and Willie Snead, which takes the attention off of Fleener for sure.

Coby Fleener could pay off big, but he’s not worthy of being taken before the 13th round. Make sure he’s not your starting option.
