Every Royals first-round draft pick since 2000: Asa Lacy (2020)

The Royals weren’t much better in 2019, but they held the No. 4 selection in the 2020 draft, rather than the No. 2 selection like the previous year. The Royals didn’t have as obvious as a pick this time around, but fortunately for them, Texas A&M pitcher Asa Lacy fell right into their laps at pick No. 4.

Lacy was a stud at Texas A&M, pitching for them for three years and finishing his Aggies career with a 14-5 record (win-loss means more at the college level), a 2.07 ERA, and 224 strikeouts through 152 innings pitched.

Lacy was on his way to another dominant season in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the college baseball season, but the Royals were lucky to land the Aggies pitcher in the draft. He hasn’t pitched for any of their minor league organizations yet, but this kid could be the next big thing for the Kansas City Royals.
