It was NASCAR night in Kansas City with the Go Bowling 400. However, the Kansas City Chiefs always rule “The Kingdom”, and Derrick Johnson got in on the racing action.

Your most irrational and rabid Kansas City Chiefs fans probably lost their minds when they first heard. For many fans, the expectation is that football players live in a plastic bubble in the offseason. That wasn’t the case last night for Derrick Johnson. The Chiefs star linebacker instead pushed 200 miles per hour in the pace car for the Go Bowling 400.

Derrick Johnson has spent most of his offseason trying to rehab from an Achilles injury suffered last season. The All Pro linebacker has repeatedly stated that his goal is to be ready to go for Training Camp. However, everyone needs a break and a chance to do something fun.

Now, maybe driving 200 miles per hour isn’t your thing (so get out of the left lane, grandpa!). However, don’t let that get you too worked up over this. First of all, DJ is just fine. Second, we avoided a Ricky Bobby moment. Third, it really isn’t that big of a deal anyways.

As for his experience, Johnson had nothing but good things to say, and claims he is now a NASCAR fan. I don’t know how much of that was DJ just being a nice guy, but I’m sure he had a great time flying around the track. Lord knows I would have!

The Kansas City Chiefs are getting geared up for the 2017 season. For some guys, that means a lot of rehab to get over injuries. Derrick Johnson expects to be back and ready to go for Training Camp. I’m going to trust him on that. In the meantime, I’m glad to see him taking an opportunity to go out and do something most folks don’t get to do.
