DAVID JAYNES

TWO GAMES, ZERO STARTS

David Jaynes was a local guy to the Kansas City area, as he played college football at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. It would have been cool to see Jaynes succeed with the Chiefs, as he was a Jayhawk and grew up in the area.

The Chiefs were bad in the 70s and didn’t seem to have much luck at drafting quarterbacks. Jaynes was further proof of that.

He was a third-round pick in the 1974 NFL Draft and was one of the top prospects that year. In fact, Jaynes ranked third on KC Kingdom’s list of all-time great KU quarterbacks. Unfortunately, his NFL career did not last long.

During his lone season in the pros, Jaynes appeared in only two games for Kansas City and didn’t complete a pass. Well, he did, but it was completed to the other team for an interception.

He did have the distinction of being the first ever player drafted in the World Football League, but never signed with the team that drafted him, as he went to the NFL.

There’s a fun trivia answer for you, in case you ever need it.
