Bob Huggins has grown a reputation for his “Press” Virginia, though his style of play always seems to fail come tournament time. Remember the whopping the Mountaineers took by Kentucky in 2011?
4. If it was any other team slotted in as the four seed in the West Region, you would favor a trip to the Final Four. Considering West Virginia’s problems in the tournament, however, I do not think they have a very good chance for a Final Four run. Their maximum is the Elite Eight and that is pushing it. Can Bob Huggins break the spell of West Virginia’s ineffectiveness in the NCAA Tournament? With no true talents other than Jevon Carter, I have some serious doubts about this Mountaineer team.
First Round
West Virginia should have no problems at all with Bucknell. This is where their press will work wonders. Bucknell should tire out right after halftime to seal up an easy win.
Prediction: West Virginia 72, Bucknell 56
Second Round
Just like every year, the press will once again fail in the tournament. Notre Dame is a strong team with one of my favorite athletes in Bonzie Colson. They should have no problem getting past the press. West Virginia might need to consider a new postseason plan to get past their woes.
Prediction: West Virginia 64, Notre Dame 71
