Dave Toub: Special Teams Coach

Job Search: Head Coach

There is no hotter name in the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff than Special Teams coach Dave Toub. Under Toub, the Chiefs special teams unit has become one of the premier units in all of football. That is nothing new for Toub who enjoyed similar success during his time in Chicago. However, he may finally be in line for a head coaching job.

Dave Toub’s name has been kicked around by nearly every single pundit and analyst out there. He is widely respected around the NFL, and is considered the best at what he does. Many even feel that he is long overdue for his opportunity to lead a team. So it will be no surprise if someone gives him an interview.

What stands in Toub’s way is the perception that he is “just” a Special Teams coach. Many people forget that a Special Teams coach is actually a coordinator, who is supposedly on the same level as the offensive and defensive coordinators. However, perception is reality, and ST coaches are just not given much thought. Otherwise, Toub probably would have gotten an offer a long time ago.
