Best Jayhawks in the NFL – Number 5: Nolan Cromwell

NFL safety from 1977-1987

Nolan Cromwell was a second round pick by the Los Angeles Rams in the 1977 NFL Draft and went on to spend his entire 11-year career with the organization.

He’s the first guy on this list not to win a Super Bowl, but he did appear in one in 1979. He was a four-time Pro Bowler and had 37 career interceptions during his time in the pros.

Cromwell was named as the league’s best defensive player in 1980 and was a lights out safety for pretty much his entire career.

Though he doesn’t have the rings to show for it, Nolan Cromwell had one of the best pro careers for a former KU football player. He went from playing safety to quarterback while in college, and then was moved back to safety for his pro career and showed the Rams why that was a fantastic decision.

He comes in at number five on this list.
