Lexington Legends: 3-1

The Lexington Legends are tied for first place in the Southern South Atlantic League. Pitchers Emilio Ogando, Yunior Marte, and Niklas Stephenson got the wins for the Legends and Jacob Bodner picked up a save.

Marte, the Royals 30th ranked prospect, had the most impressive stuff for the Legends on the pitching front. Across 4.2 innings of work, Marte posted a 1.93 ERA with three hits and two walks allowed. He also struck out seven Lakewood batters.

Nolan Watson, one of the Royals’ Indiana High School pitching draft picks last year and fifth overall prospect, was less impressive. He pitched three innings last week and gave up nine hits and two walks. He also allowed nine earned runs but did manage four strikeouts.

Leading the offensive charge for the Legends were 11th and 20th ranked prospects, Chase Vallot and Amalani Fukofuka.

Vallot, a catcher for the Legends, was 7-14 at the dish and had three doubles and four RBIs. Fukofuka was 6-17 with a double and a home run. He also drove in four runs for the Legends.

The Legends second game and second win of the season came on a walk-off sacrifice fly. Marten Gasparini, the Royals eighth overall prospect out of Italy, scored Ben Johnson on a fly ball to right fielder Jose Pujols.

The final game of the series saw Legends’ pitcher Torey Deshazier blow a save and then take a loss in extra innings. The Legends struck out looking three times in the ninth and tenth innings.
