Best First Round Picks by the Chiefs – Number 12: Mike Bell (Chiefs defensive end from 1979-1991)

In 1979, the KC Chiefs drafted Mike Bell with the second overall pick. Bell was born in Wichita, Kansas, and attended Colorado State for college. He went on to spend his entire 12-year career in Kansas City as a member of the Chiefs.

Bell played in 135 games and started 100 of them. He was voted to two Pro Bowls during his 12-year career and racked up 40 career sacks in 12 years.

Bell was with the Chiefs during their struggles in the 1980s and didn’t get to play in a postseason game until the 1986 season. Bell got his first playoff win with the Chiefs in his final season in 1991, when the team defeated the Raiders in the AFC Wild Card round.

Having a player stick around with the same franchise for 12 years is rare, and that’s what put Mike Bell on this list. He truly is one of the best first round draft picks of all time, and certainly lived up to his number two overall pick hype.
