Must Keep

Eric Berry (Free Safety)

Keeping Eric Berry is a ‘no brainer’.

Berry is coming off his fourth Pro Bowl season after being declared cancer free shortly before training camp. He was also named first-team all-pro for the second time in his career following the 2015 season.

Despite the difficult recovery, he produced and was a key part in the dominance of the Chiefs’ defense this year.In his career with the Chiefs he has had 305 solo tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 10 interceptions. Eric Berry was the soul of the defense this year, and Kansas City needs to work hard to keep him.

Oakland will be looking for a Safety with Charles Woodson retiring. Eric Weddle is also leaving San Diego, so there is a good chance that we could see Eric Berry in a Black and silver Jersey or powder blue next season.  I pray that that does not happen.

Derrick Johnson (Inside Linebacker)

Derrick Johnson also came back after tearing his ACL in the first game of the season last year. He, like Berry, was a key part in the defense and is going to his fourth Pro Bowl.

Johnson is 33 but he is not showing signs of slowing down and he has shown interest in staying a Chief which, hopefully, points to him in the line up next season.

In his long Chiefs career Johnson has accounted for 820 solo tackles, 26.5, sacks and 13 interceptions.  This will be hard to replace, but I believe that DJ will be retiring as a Chief.  I hope that I am correct.
