36. 2015 Stats: 55 combined tackles, 1.0 sack, 1 interception, 8 passes defensed. CB. Seattle Seahawks. DeShawn Shead. 5. player

DeShawn Shead has been a secondary member of the Legion of Boom for three seasons and is now scheduled to become a free agent this off-season. He is undrafted out of Portland State and was signed as a undrafted free agent by the Seattle Seahawks back in 2012.

In 2013, Shead was promoted from the Seahawks’ practice squad to the active roster and now he is the starting cornerback opposite of arguably the best corner in the entire league in Richard Sherman. The Seahawks originally signed Cary Williams to a relatively big free agency contract, but Shead out-played Williams and was sent in to replace him in the middle of their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers this season.

The Seahawks have had a lot of loss at the defensive back positions, which has opened up the door for Shead, but he has taken a hold of the starting gig and hasn’t really been that bad.

In Kansas City, Shead would be a big improvement at the #3 cornerback spot that has been filled by Jemell Fleming and Marcus Cooper over the last two seasons. The two have been so bad that safeties Ron Parker and Tyvon Branch have been forced to play nickel and slot-corner in place of both Fleming and Cooper.

At 6-foot-2, Shead has very good size for a corner which is what the Chiefs and defensive coordinator Bob Sutton like so much about their current #1 corner Sean Smith. Shead along with Smith and rookie Marcus Peters could formulate one heck of a cornerback squad that could develop into one of the best in the AFC.

Combine those corners with the four safeties that the Chiefs use and you could have an even better defense next season. That is if you can bring back some or most of the current Chiefs’ defensive players that are scheduled to be unrestricted free agents in a few months.
