The second example of “Keep the line moving” was in Game 2 of the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Kansas City Royals were already up one game to none over the Blue Jays and were hosting their second straight game in the series.

After trailing 3-0 in the seventh inning by a dominant performance from David Price, the Royals once again were relentless. After what should have been an easy pop out for either Jose Bautista or Ryan Goins to catch, miscommunication between the two led to Ben Zobrist ending up on first base with no outs.

Lorenzo Cain singled. Eric Hosmer’s single scored Zobrist from second base. Kendrys Morales grounded out and scored Cain from third. Mike Moustakas singled to bring in Hosmer and tie the game at three.

The Royals took the lead when Alex Gordon doubled home Moose, and Alex Rios singled to bring home Gordon. The Royals went from being down 3-0 and being dominated by the opposing team’s pitcher to taking a 5-3 lead and knocking the starter out of the game (and handing him the loss).

Kansas City tacked on an insurance run in the next inning to make it a 6-3 game, and the Royals went on to win that game.
