Defense

You know those stats that say “this team hasn’t done this for X amount of games,” or “that team has scored X amount for the past X games?” Well, the Chiefs defense had one of those nice stats ruined last week, and it was the offense’s fault.

The Chiefs had not given up 30 points in a game since a 52-31 victory against Oakland in December of 2013. However, the Broncos scored a defensive touchdown in the final minutes on a Charles fumble, and had to go only 15 yards for a score right before halftime after a Smith interception.

Fleming’s poor performance though, which resulted in nine completions, 123 yards and a score in 13 targets, is a concern.

In other words, the streak should still be alive and the defense is just fine.

When not playing in the final 2:36 of each half, it only gave up three points to the Broncos. Fleming’s poor performance, though, which resulted in nine completions, 123 yards and a score in 13 targets, is a concern.

Cornerback Sean Smith, who has served two games of a three-game suspension for an off-season DUI, can’t come back soon enough, and it will be interesting to see if Andy Reid makes any changes to his defensive backfield.

The front seven has been rock solid, allowing a putrid 79.5 yards per-game on the ground and recording eight sacks, led by Justin Houston’s three.

That being said, it’s easier said than done to slow down a Packers squad at home that hasn’t scored less than 26 points at Lambeau since December 2013, while averaging 38.3 points per game the last nine in front of its home crowd.
