. . Kansas State Wildcats. OFFENSE . B-

I’m giving the K-State offense a B- on the day, but early on in the game, it wasn’t necessarily an impressive run for the Wildcats. They only scored six points in the first half and actually trailed 10-6 heading into the half.

The Wildcats had an opportunity to take the reigns of the game early on after causing an LA Tech fumble on special teams, but a bad hand off between Joe Hubener and Winston Dimel led to K-State giving the ball right back. A wasted opportunity for sure.

  • Joe Hubener and company heated up in the second half, putting up 17 points to take the lead in the fourth quarter. Hubener really impressed me especially down the stretch. Hubener was able to put his team up by a touchdown in the first overtime only to have LA Tech match it.

He later hit Kody Cook in the third and final overtime with a beautiful 31-yard pass to be the eventual game winner.

Running back Justin Silmon had a hell of a game. He led the Wildcats with 24 carries for 114 yards. While Silmon didn’t have the team’s lone rushing touchdown (that went to Charles Jones), he showed he can be a reliable back for this team and it was fun to watch.

As for the wide receivers, they struggled early on to even hold onto the ball, which knocked the offense down some points, but they eventually warmed up. Kody Cook had a great game, grabbing two touchdowns (including the game winner) and 73 yards on four receptions.

The offense played a good game. They limited their mistakes and ultimately lifted their team to victory in the end. The reason they didn’t get an A was due to the slow start in the first half.
