Don’t Look for a Huge Move by the KC Royals

A team like the Royals, who relies so heavily on homegrown talent and second tier (at best) free agents, just isn’t likely to sell the farm for a rental player, or a mega contract. That’s not in their DNA, nor should it be.

Honestly, I think the needs of the Royals are such that acquiring one big ticket item would be less effective than acquiring two, or more, smaller ticket items.

  • For example, trading for someone like Cueto would certainly boost the rotation, but it does nothing for the black holes the Royals currently feature at second base, right field, and the need to cover some of Alex Gordon’s production.

By the time you trade off the prospects it would take to get someone like Cueto, you likely wouldn’t have enough to make improvements in other areas without really emptying your prospect basket.

Truth be told, the Royals don’t need to acquire an ACE.  They just need competency on the mound, as the defense takes care of the rest.

I’m looking for the Royals to acquire multiple mid-level guys, who fit their brand of baseball.  Below I’ll offer up five players at second base, outfield, and starting pitcher that I believe could be potential trade targets for the Royals.
