Round 2, Pick 17

The Chiefs need all the help they can get on the offensive line and while center isn’t necessarily one of them, Rodney Hudson may or may not be back in 2015. Eric Kush has been groomed for the moment in which Hudson wouldn’t return, but still. I don’t think it’s a bad idea to grab a center early on in the draft.

Fanspeak listed Erving as a center, but he’s actually listed as an offensive tackle on CBS Sports’ prospect list (and yes, they have a different prospect list for centers, which he is not listed on). He’s projected as the sixth best tackle according to CBS Sports and is slated to go anytime in the late first round or early second round.

Cameron Erving has experience on the offensive line and on the defensive line. He played on the d-line his first two years with the Seminoles and then switched to the o-line for his final two years. He was the center for Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jameis Winston and was on the National Championship team in 2013.

"Versatile athlete who has transitioned from the defensive side of the ball to start at both left tackle and center. Boasts a pretty remarkable combination of size (6-feet-5, 309 pounds) and athleticism, and blends length with surprisingly light feet and flexibility. – CBS Sports‘ analysis on Erving’s strengths"

I might be jumping the gun by grabbing a center this early on, but if Rodney Hudson doesn’t return, at least the KC Chiefs would have a solid pick to fall back on.
