Run Defense

Look, I get it. The Seattle Seahawks are one of the best rushing teams in the league so I knew that the Chiefs’ run defense would struggle this week. Between Marshawn Lynch, Robert Turbin, and Russell Wilson carrying the football, the Chiefs knew they’d have their work cut out for them. Indeed they did, as the Seahawks rushed for over 200 yards against Kansas City.

I was getting frustrated watching this game because it seemed like Lynch was constantly getting big gains and that Wilson was scrambling every which way. It was annoying to watch. Lynch averaged five yards a carry and Wilson averaged nine. That’s ridiculous for a quarterback to be averaging NINE yards a carry.

The one HUGE props this defense deserves is that they didn’t allow Seattle to score a rushing touchdown. The Kansas City Chiefs are STILL the only team in the league to not allow a rushing touchdown and we’re going into week 12! That is incredible.

Overall though, this run D needs to improve. While Seattle is probably the best rushing team the Chiefs will face, there are still good running backs coming up on the Chiefs’ schedule and they’re going to need to work on this.
