Devonte Graham is an intriguing candidate for the starting spot. At 6’2″, Graham is bigger than his more experienced competition. If he can penetrate the lane, and get to the rim effectively, he may be tough to beat out, especially if he can finish at the basket.
Most likely, Graham will need some seasoning to gain Bill Self’s confidence. Self is very hard on his point guards, and there is a learning curve dealing with the high expectations for players at Kansas.
It would be slightly surprising if Graham started the season as the starter.
Like all freshmen, questions about Devonte Graham’s ability on the defensive end need to be answered before we can predict his playing time. Usually, performance on defense seems to weigh heavily on Self’s decisions about playing time.
If Graham is a good, physical defender, can run the team, and score when necessary, he may eventually play himself into the starting spot. It would be slightly surprising if Graham started the season as the starter.
