Round 4, Number 124 Overall: E.J. Gaines, Corner Back, Missouri

The 5’10, 195 pound prospect possess great man-to-man coverage skills that could make him a perfect fit for the Chiefs aggressive defensive style. He’s projected to fall somewhere between rounds three or four, making him one of the more valuable prospects to be taken that late by any team. Gaines is a stud athlete that isn’t afraid to get physical with receivers on the outside, or running backs that sweep to his side. Noland Nawrocki said this about his strenghts,

"STRENGHTS– Good muscularity and thin ankles. Fills aggressively and supports the run. Likes to hit. Plays with confidence and carries a swagger. Good attitude and football demeanor. Competes hard and brings energy to the field. Good eyes and route recognition. Has experience matching up with slot receivers in nickel coverage and has returned punts."

He’s versatile, a word we keep using when it comes to players that Andy Reid and John Dorsey love. Picking up Gaines in the fourth round would be a steal. He would immediately be competing for a starting role and at a cost effective rate. However, there are some reasons he’s falling this far,

"WEAKNESSES– Is short and short-armed. Plays a lot into the boundary. Shows some tightness in his hips. Average transitional quickness — lacks ideal burst and acceleration to recover and close ground. Can do a better job disengaging from blocks. Most of interception production stemmed from tips and overthrown balls (not created). Average hands."

All in all, this would be a great pick at this position of the draft, which is why I made him my fourth round choice.
