7. Mississippi Rebels

Record: 1-0 (1-0)

Previous Ranking: 9 (Trend: Up)

Last Week: Mississippi 39, Vanderbilt 35

This Week: vs. Southeast Missouri State

Next Week: at Texas

Wow, what a tremendous win for the Rebels, who know lead the next tier of the SEC. The road win over Vanderbilt could prove crucial in which bowl game they end up in at the end of the season, and should provide momentum for a team who has a brutal first-half schedule.

Ole Miss got 138 yards from Jake Scott, whose 75-yard touchdown run with a minute left in the game won the game for the Rebels. He’s going to be relied on a lot during the first half of the season as Bo Wallace had some issues leading a consistent passing game.

If Ole Miss can somehow steal one of the games against Texas, Alabama, Texas A&M, or LSU, they could end up with nine wins this season. On the road against Texas and at home against LSU may be their best bets.
