Gus Malzahn got a victory in his first game with Auburn by defeating the Mike Leach-led Washington State Cougars. Tre Mason had a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and Corey Grant had 75-yard touchdown run to help the Tigers to a win. Grant ended the day with 146 rushing yards on nine carries.

Junior college transfer Nick Marshall struggled in his starting debut, completing only 10-of-19 passes for just 99 yards. Auburn is going to need that position to improve dramatically if they intend to at least match their three-win total from last season.

Auburn has a cupcake game this week against Arkansas State before they host Mississippi State next weekend.
