The Kansas City Royals’ season is over and they finished with an 81-81 record to round out a frustrating year. There were a lot of players who didn’t live up to their potential in 2016, but here are five who disappointed the most.

Baseball is a team sport, there’s no doubt about that. When certain players struggle to get the job done, however, it makes it tough for the rest of the team to perform at a high level and win games.

This season was full of “Oh, crap” or “It just wasn’t meant to be” moments, but a good chunk of said moments fell on some of the Royals’ most disappointing players.

This list is probably pretty easy for most of you to compile, as a lot of guys who were key players in years past simply didn’t come through this year. They didn’t help this team reach their goal of repeating as World Series champions, and now the KC Royals and the rest of us will be watching all of the postseason games from our couches.

With all of that said, it’s hard to be upset about this season. The Royals gave us two straight unforgettable Octobers, and the truth is that they needed a break this postseason. Obviously, a third straight playoff berth would have been awesome, but this wasn’t Kansas City’s year.
