Over the last couple of offseasons, the Kansas City Royals have had tremendous success in signing middle-tier pitchers to help round off the talent that they already have on the staff. Coming off of a World Series championship, coaches, players, and fans will all be expecting big things next season, so bringing in some new players is all but guaranteed.

With the Royals’ spending restrictions, it is very unlikely to see them chasing the likes of David Price or Zack Greinke, but we could see them continue to do what they have been doing over the last couple of seasons and bring in guys like Chris Young and Edinson Volquez.

Young and Volquez obviously played huge parts in the Royals’ first championship win in thirty years, but nobody, at the time of their signing, predicted that they would do so much for KC. Now this coming offseason, the Royals are losing Johnny Cueto and Chris Young to free agency, and Jason Vargas and Greg Holland will both miss extended time with injuries.

The free agency period is one of the most exciting and suspension parts of major league baseball because it really can make or break a season with just one signing.
