KC Kingdom is expanding at a rapid pace, and our goal is to be the best Kansas City area sports site on the internet. Aaron, Josh,  and I are pleased to announce we have added another new staff member, Zach Blochlinger, to our team.

Zach will be helping in our effort to expand our Jayhawks and Chiefs coverage. We are excited to have him writing for KC Kingdom.

Zach Blochlinger is off to a flying start, and has already published several things for us. In addition to a game preview, he took a look on how Andrew Wiggins’ skill set might translate to the NBA.

Like all of the new writers to KC Kingdom, Zach Blochlinger took a few minutes to answer eight questions so we can get to know him just a little better. Here are his answers to those 8 questions:

How did you become a fan of the team you’re covering?

I have been a fan of the Kansas Jayhawks since I was young. I grew up watching the likes of Paul Pierce, Kirk Hinrich, Wayne Simien, and others. My family has always been Kansas fans and growing up in the Kansas City area just makes the love stronger.

Where did you grow up and where do you currently live?

As I said, I grew up in the Kansas City area and lived there from childhood until 2013 when I moved to Chicago for college. I will most likely live in Chicago for the next three years or so.

What is your college/educational background?

Currently, I am attending North Central College in Illinois. I am a sophomore and my major is Sports Management. This is my first year at North Central. Last year, I went to a community college in Kansas City, MO.

What do you do for a living?

Right now I am going to college and am not working anywhere except for over the summers.

Do you have a family?

My close family includes my parents obviously, Kristen and Dennis, and I have two younger brothers that are currently in high school.

What do you like to do for fun (sports related or otherwise)?

In my free time, I am always doing something with sports. Whether its playing, watching, attending, playing video games, or just watching ESPN, about 90% of my free time revolves around sports.

What are your least favorite team(s) and why?

My least favorite teams are the Missouri Tigers for college athletics and the Oakland Raiders in the NFL. The Tigers had a HUGE rivalry with the Jayhawks growing up before they switched to the SEC conference, which sparked a lot of hate for the Missouri Tigers. As for the Raiders, the are the Kansas City Chiefs biggest rival. I am also a huge Chiefs fan and have always despised the Raiders.

What is your favorite sports moment or memory?

My favorite sports memory that I have is definitely watching the 2008 NCAA National Championship game between the Jayhawks and the Memphis Tigers and Coach John Calipari and Derrick Rose. Mario Chalmers hit one of the biggest shots in NCAA Tournament history late in the game which eventually sparked Kansas to win in overtime. The game also involved Sherron Collins, who is my favorite all-time Jayhawk.
