The Kansas City Chiefs have a number of very tough personnel decisions ahead of them in the coming months. The Chiefs may have some salary caps issues this off season, as Ben informed us a few weeks ago, and General Manager John Dorsey is going to have to get very creative to make it all work.

The Chiefs need to decide which players they can most easily replace, either with someone already on the roster, or maybe more cheaply via free agency, or the draft. Every team has players they want to be loyal to. Either they are fan favorites, or they are good players who are hard workers and team players.

Making roster decisions involving players who have been with the franchise for a few years can’t be easy. These are other people’s careers. Ultimately though, the general manager must make decisions objectively, and not with his heart.

There are four players who have been with the Chiefs for several years now, who are free agents. All of them have their pluses and minuses, but the biggest minus with most of these four players will be their price tags. Kansas City just isn’t going to be able to sign them. They can probably promote or sign a replacement player, without losing much production, for much less money.

Some of these decisions can’t be easy, but football is a business, with a very structured financial system in place. The Chiefs can’t re-sign every player they want to. These are four players the Chiefs could realistically do without.
