Lorde Finds Inspiration from (Kansas City) Royals, But George Brett’s Song Was Better

Of course the song “Royals” is inspired by the Royals. Of. Course.

Sixteen-year-old pop sensation Lorde said she got the inspiration from her mega-hit “Royals” from an image of a person in a Royals baseball shirt signing autographs. “The word,” as she emphasizes in the video above, is what led her to write the song that has gained her worldwide fame.

To the VH1 internet machine:

"“I had this image from the National Geographic of this dude just signing baseballs,” Lorde told us when we sat down with her recently. “He was a baseball player and his shirt said, ‘Royals.’” Lorde was so taken by the image and the word that she penned the song around that idea. ”It was just that word. It’s really cool.”"

So, the question now remains: What picture did she see in National Geographic?

No one has been able to produce this photo yet, but I’d like thing it is of Billy Butler covered in his bar-b-que sauce. Granted, that detail probably would have been mentioned by Lorde but whatever.

What hasn’t be discussed nearly enough is that there used to be a song about George Brett in the 1980’s that was WAY better than what Lorde has produced. I’ll let you confirm this with both your eyes and ears.
