Kansas City Chiefs 2015 NFL Draft Fearless First Round Prediction

The Kansas City Chiefs hold the no. 18 pick of Thursday’s 2015 NFL Draft, along with nine other selections. KC Kingdom predicts that the Chiefs will take USC Wide Receiver Nelson Agholor.

Agholor is viewed by many as a second-round talent, but he is a perfect fit for Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid‘s West Coast offense. KC Kingdom’s Leigh Oleszczack profiled Nelson Agholor back in late March.

I can even see a scenario where the Chiefs trade down and take Agholor at the end of the first round. I suspect, however, KC Chiefs general manager John Dorsey might not fool around and take Nelson Agholor at no. 18—especially if he views Agholor as one of his “12 impact players“.

Adding Nelson Agholor to pair with free-agent signee Jeremy Maclin would completely revamp a Kansas City Chiefs receiving corps that famously failed to catch a touchdown pass last season. Agholor’s primary assets are his soft hands and his ability to get quick separation in his routes.

Those are exactly the skills needed to thrive in a West Coast offense.

Consequently, I suspect that Kansas City Chiefs personnel men will grade Nelson Agholor much higher than most Draft gurus due to the system fit. He might not be an impact player in a spread offense, but Agholor could provide instant value for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Nelson Agholor ran a solid 4.42 40-yard dash at the NFL combine, but really showed his elite agility at his pro day where he posted a 4.34 short shuttle and a 6.83 3-cone drill. Veteran draft analyst and former Dallas Cowboys personnel man Gil Brandt listed him as one of five draft prospects whose speed should stand out on NFL fields this fall.

Brandt said:

"The thing with Agholor is, when you combine his 40 time (which, at 4.42 seconds, is still pretty good, even if it’s not best-in-class) with his impressive showings in the short shuttle and three-cone drill at his pro day, you have a picture of a receiver who can burn when he needs to and change direction with alacrity. Agholor is a good route-runner who could be the big surprise among this year’s receiver crop. With his speed, quickness, hands and fluidity, he’s got a shot to be this year’s version of Odell Beckham Jr."

Agholor still has enough speed to get over the top if necessary, but excels in route running and in short-area quickness. He’s not the biggest wide receiver in the world at 6’0″ and 198 lbs, but isn’t a smurf either. If he’s 80% of Odell Beckham as a rookie, he’d be a steal.

However, John Dorsey might not be so passive. The Kansas City Chiefs could trade up for players such as wide-receiver DeVante Parker or cornerback Trae Waynes who might provide terrific draft value if they drop past the top 10.
