All MLB season long, Kansas City Royals fans could receive crates filled with goodies for their favorite team via SportsCrate. The fifth and final SportsCrate has shipped out.

As a big Kansas City Royals fan, I was looking forward to seeing what items SportsCrate would provide me with over the duration of its subscription. I signed up for the monthly crate for $39.99 a month and would say that it was not worth what I paid for. More on that later though.

The fifth and final SportsCrate showed up on my door step on Wednesday and it was decent. Even box has its own theme and this one was “Finish Strong”. The contents of the final crate were as follows:

  • Gray t-shirt with “KC” in blue lettering
  • Gold apron with Kauffman Stadium, “Royals” in blue written above, and “Home Field!” below the image
  • Blue and silver Royals lanyard

The t-shirt design is cool, but the neck is way too tight. The apron would be cool if I cooked more often, so I might end up giving it to someone. The lanyard can replace my UCM one once baseball season starts up again.

By this point, I’ve gotten all five of the Royals SportsCrates and while some of the items were cool, I wouldn’t suggest people sign up for this service. The crates were always late, the action figures in the final two crates were delayed and I’ve still yet to receive either, and I was sent an item from a different team (though they did send me the correct one when I emailed the company about it).

It wasn’t all bad though. Last month’s crate consisted of a blue Royals hat and a Tervis water bottle. That was the best crate out of the bunch by far, as I’ll use both of those items. There was another crate with coasters that doubled as can openers and the July crate had a black leather wallet inside. Those were the best contents of the bunch.

While I appreciate SportsCrate for doing something fun like this for baseball fans, the crates were not worth $40 a month. The first two t-shirts both had terrible designs and the third shirt’s neckline was way too snug.

SportsCrate did promise after the first crate that they’d get better and that much was true. The first one was woefully disappointing, but each crate after that had something worthwhile inside. The fourth one was the one that contained the hat and water bottle and that was by far the best one sent out.

As for next season, I won’t be renewing my subscription. For those of you who thought these seemed interesting, go ahead and give it a try! There were some cool items in these crates, but when it came down to it, it wasn’t worth what I was paying.
