Kansas City Chiefs Scouting Report: Cody Whitehair
The Kansas City Chiefs need help along the offensive line. Could Cody Whitehair be a solution for the team in the 2016 NFL Draft?
The offensive line has been an issue in Kansas City for a few seasons now, and the main need is at the offensive guard position. This year’s draft includes many strong offensive tackle options, but the best guard in the draft is Cody Whitehair out of Kansas State.
Along with being a local guy, Whitehair started 50 games during his time in Manhattan, and received All-Big 12 honors. He was voted First-Team in 2015. Despite being listed as an offensive guard, an AFC Scout said on CBS Sports that Whitehair has the potential to play all five spots on the line.
That versatility, and the fact that he’s so close to home, could be strong reasons for Cody Whitehair’s name being called by the Kansas City Chiefs at the draft.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com says that Whitehair spent time at the tackle position throughout college, which shows he has versatility along the line. With the Chiefs desperately needing two starting guards, Whitehair seems to be a perfect solution for Kansas City.
Whitehair’s the perfect size for an offensive lineman (6’4″ and 300 pounds), and has the attitude of a veteran. He would bring a lot to this Chiefs team, and Scott Dillon had Whitehair going to the team in one of his mock drafts.

Unfortunately, none of the guys at CBS Sports have Cody Whitehair even lasting until the 28th pick. Their predictions to where Whitehair will end up are with Indianapolis (18th), Minnesota (23rd), Seattle (26th), and Green Bay (27th). Basically, it’ll be something if he evens make it to the 28th pick, but if he does, this seems like a no-brainer.

It’s a no-brainer because Cody Whitehair is a local product. He was born in Abilene, Kansas, which is only a little over two hours away from Kansas City. He attended Kansas State University for four years, and now could continue his stay in the MidWest by being a member of the KC Chiefs.
Whitehair probably grew up a Chiefs fan, and what’s cooler than a kid being drafted by his hometown team? Well, winning a Super Bowl with your hometown team, but that’s probably at least another year or two away.
To sum up, draft this kid if he’s on the board at pick 28, John Dorsey. He fills an area of need and is a local product. He has the intangibles of a pro offensive lineman and is worthy of a first round pick.
