Sporting KC will be coming into the game full of confidence after they defeated former Eastern Conference rival Chicago Fire in a nationally televised game last week with a 1-0 final. Super sub midfielder Paulo Nagamura scored the games lone goal in the 75th minute and Sporting was able to buckle down and hold out for the victory.

Sporting KC had several players recognized following the Chicago game including midfielder Benny Feilhaber and goalkeeper Tim Melia being named to the Major League Soccer team of the week. Melia was a bit of a surprise to start the game but he rewarded head coach Peter Vermes by having one of the best games of his career in place of Luis Marin who had started every other game this season.

Feilhaber continued his MVP campaign and was recognized as the MLS player of the month for the month of April.

The MLS team of the week also featured D.C. United defender Bobby Boswell who will have his hands full with forward Dom Dwyer this week.

Sporting KC is sitting in the middle of the table in the Western Conference Standings with 13 points in nine games played. They can jump over two teams and move up to fourth place with a victory against D.C. United.

D.C. United are currently in second place in the Eastern Conference standings with 17 points in eight games played. They can move into a tie with the New England Revolution for first place with a draw, but a win would put them two points ahead with a game in hand.

D.C. United is unbeaten at home in their last 16 games played which dates back to the 2014 season, but Sporting KC are unbeaten against Eastern Conference opponents in 2015 with three wins and a draw.

Sporting KC will once again be without Canadian International defender Marcel de Jong who is battling a muscle strain in his left hip. Seth Sinovic will likely get the start at left back in his place. Last weeks hero Paulo Nagamura is listed as questionable on the teams injury report with a lower back sprain.

The biggest question mark for Sporting KC will be whether Vermes gives Melia a chance to solidify himself as the teams starting goalkeeper or if he gives Marin a chance to earn the starting job back.
