Sporting KC faces a stiff test tonight at 7:30 PM CST, hosting a Real Salt Lake squad that is unbeaten in its last eight matches.

The clubs drew 2-2 back in February and the rematch comes at a critical time for Sporting, as a win would officially catapult KC into the playoffs.

To their credit, Sporting has just two losses in its last nine games. Can the hosts stay hot and leap into the playoff picture or will Real deliver a crushing blow?

Let’s check out the odds before jumping into my best bet for the contest.

Sporting KC vs Real Salt Lake Prediction and Pick

Since the start of May, no Western Conference team has accumulated more points than Real (23) and Sporting (22). This is a matchup of the finest teams in the league over the last two-and-a-half months and I’m expecting fireworks as a result.

Each club struggled to start the season but rounded into form after getting crucial players back from injury, so this is a better test than the 2-2 draw back in February was.

With nine goals in his last seven matches, including two last week against Houston, Alan Pulido will once again be the focal point of Sporting’s attack.

It won’t come easy though, as Real owns MLS’ best road record (6-3-2) and has four straight wins away from home. Sporting has 25 goals since May 1st to lead the league, but Real averages over two goals per contest in its last nine.

These are two fiery offenses and I think we’re likely to see the OVER 2.5 goals hit as a result. That being said, I also love the +320 odds on a draw and both teams to score. I make that my best bet for the matchup and don’t believe either club submits a clean sheet.

If Sporting can maintain this current form, I’d expect we see these teams square off again in the playoffs as well.
