Sporting KC Set To Face the Philadelphia Union In Easter Showdown

Sporting KC will be looking to put together a win streak as they look for their second win of the season in their 600th MLS Regular season match on this Easter Sunday against the Philadelphia Union. The match is set to kick off at 6 PM Central time, and will be nationally televised on Fox Sports 1.

Sporting KC are coming off their first win of the season where they defeated new expansion side New York City FC at Yankee Stadium 1-0 on the head of Ike Opara. Sporting KC are also riding a 197 minute shutout streak featuring two straight shutouts against New York City FC and the Portland Timbers.

The Philadelphia Union will be looking for their first win of the season as they currently have two points in four games played, and are coming off of two straight defeats. The latest match for Philadelphia resulted in a 1-0 loss to the Chicago Fire.

Philadelphia will be missing several key members of their squad including veteran Conor Casey and Sheanon Williams because of injuries. Fred and Zach Pfeffer will both be serving suspensions for a red card. Former Sporting KC first round draft pick C.J. Sapong is officially listed as questionable on the injury report. If Sapong is able to play it will be the first time he will face his former squad since being Sporting traded him to Philadelphia in the offseason.

Sporting KC will also be without a key playing, Graham Zusi was diagnosed with a mild hamstring strain which he suffered in the previous match against New York City FC. Zusi is expected to miss “a couple of weeks“.

Sporting KC loaned out 2015 first round draft pick defender Saad Abdul-Salaam to NASL squad San Antonio Scorpions where he will join goalkeeper Jon Kempin who is also loaned there from Sporting KC.

Defender Marcel de Jong featured for the Canadian Men’s National team earlier in the week, but he was subbed off in the 34th minute for precautionary reasons. De Jong, Roger Espinoza, and Erik Palmer-Brown will all be returning to Sporting KC, and should all be available if needed in the available 18.

Sporting KC forward Dom Dwyer is still looking to open his 2015 scoring sheet after being held scoreless through Sporting’s first four regular season games.

Ike Opara and Benny Feilhaber were both named to the MLS Team of the Week after their stellar performances in last weeks game against New York City FC. Opara was also nominated for the MLS Player of the Month, but Vancouver Whitecaps forward Octavio Rivero earned the honors.
