Sporting KC announced on Friday that they have signed 25-year old Haitian Midfielder Soni Mustivar. Mustivar is a natural Defensive Midfielder, but can play in an attacking position when needed. He has featured for the France under 20 team and Haitian senior team.

"“We are always looking to add quality players to our team and we feel as if we have done that with the addition of Soni,” Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes said. “I believe that once he gets acclimated to the way we play, there are some special qualities in his game that will become very apparent. I don’t think it will take too long for him to adjust to our team because he just played the entire fall season with his previous club. All in all, I think he will be a good addition for us and I think it will be demonstrated over time.”-Courtesy of Kurt Austin of SportingKC.com"

Players usually take anywhere from a couple of months to a year to become “Sporting Fit”, and it doesn’t help that Mustivar is joining Sporting KC with only a few weeks of preseason left before the regular season kicks off.

Playing the entire fall season should help his fitness some, and hopefully he can get some minutes in during the preseason to get his feet back under him.

"“I am very excited to join Sporting Kansas City,” Mustivar said. “This is a great team with great fans. I am going to work hard from day one to contribute to the team any way I can.”-Courtesy of Kurt Austin of SportingKC.com"

Mustivar began his professional career in 2008 with SC Bastia in Bastia, Corsica, and they currently play in Ligue 1 which is a French Premier Division. He made 21 appearances for SC Bastia between 2008 and 2011 with no goals.

Mustivar joined US Orleans in Ligue 2 during the 2010 season, and managed 12 appearances with no goals. He returned to SC Bastia in 2011.

Mustivar transferred to Petrolul Ploiesti which is a Romanian club located in Ploiesti, Prahova County, and is part of Liga 1. He made 76 appearances for Petrolul Ploiesti between 2012 and 2015, and opened his professional scoring account with three goals for the team.

He is still relatively inexperienced at the international level, having made four appearances with no goals for the France under 20 team, and six appearances with no goals for the Haiti National Team.

The loss of Uri Rosell during the 2014 season, and Lawrence Olum after the 2014 season meant that Sporting KC was going to be in the market for a Defensive Midfielder.

Sporting KC signed Jorge Claros after Uri Rosell left the club, but he is still relatively unproven. Claros made seven appearances with four starts in 2014 for Sporting KC.

Sporting Kansas City was left with the task of replacing Lawrence Olum given that Claros was the only natural Defensive Midfielder on the roster, and Mustivar looks to be the answer for that.

Sporting is waiting to receive the receipt of his Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa, but he should be able to join the team in time for the last few weeks of their preseason.

Sporting KC is set to begin their 2015 on March 8th at Sporting Park against the New York Red Bulls. The game will be nationally televised on Fox Sports 1 at 6 PM Central Time.
