KC Chiefs: Todd McShay First Round Mock Draft 2.0

facebooktwitterreddit

Todd McShay has officially released his second mock draft for the 2015 NFL Draft and has the KC Chiefs going wide receiver in the first round. McShay predicts that the Kansas City Chiefs will draft Oklahoma (and former Missouri) wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham with the 18th overall pick.

"The Chiefs are in serious need of an upgrade at wide receiver, and Michigan’s Devin Funchess and Arizona State’s Jaelen Strong are both options here. However, Green-Beckham is an intriguing possibility with this pick. The Chiefs would be taking a chance on him, given his behavioral baggage and the fact that he sat out the 2014 college football season, but based on the tape I’ve studied so far, Green-Beckham might be the most naturally gifted pass-catcher in this class. If Kansas City doesn’t want to take a receiver here, Miami OT Ereck Flowers would make some sense.– Todd McShay via ESPN.com (Note: You must be an Insider subscriber to read the full article)"

I’ve expressed my dislike for this pick before and nothing has changed for me. Green-Beckham simply has too many off the field issues in his past for me to merit the KC Chiefs taking a chance on him in the first round.

Mel Kiper Jr. had the Chiefs taking DGB in his first mock draft a few weeks back and now it looks like McShay is on the same page. Originally, McShay thought the Kansas City Chiefs would go with West Virginia wide receiver Kevin White in the first round.

Several mock drafts have predicted that the Chiefs will go down the Dorial Green-Beckham road and I am really nervous about selecting him. The guy was dismissed from Missouri after having an amazing season due to several off the field issues and I just don’t want the Chiefs to draft someone who could potentially bring drama to the team.

I would prefer to see the team go for a guy like Kevin White, Jaelen Strong, or Devante Parker out of Louisville. Heck, I’d prefer to see an offensive lineman drafted in the first round over Green-Beckham. I just don’t trust him to get his act together in the big leagues especially with the money he’d be earning and the fame he’d have.

Oh, not to mention, the guy didn’t play one single snap last season with Oklahoma. How do we know for sure that he’s “still got it”?

The Kansas City Chiefs have a big year ahead of them in 2015 and will need as little distractions as possible. That starts with making sure they don’t select Dorial Green-Beckham in the first round come draft day.
