With the Super Bowl champions crowned, it’s now officially 2015 NFL Mock Draft season, and everyone will be trying to play John Dorsey and fix the Kansas City Chiefs. This is my second 2015 NFL Mock Draft of the off-season. I used Fanspeak’s On The Clock draft simulator again, and once again used my first pick on a quarterback.

Round 1, Pick 18

With the first pick in my second 2015 NFL Mock Draft the KC Chiefs select Marcus Mariota. The 2014 Heisman Trophy Award winner has all the makings of a franchise quarterback, and everyone expected him to be the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft until the National Championship game against Ohio State happened.

Mariota didn’t have a terrible game, but by his standards his play was underwhelming. He finished with 333 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the 42-20 loss to Ohio State.

Jameis Winston and Mariota are far and away the top two prospects at the quarterback position, and there are plenty of quarterback needy teams, but with the recent struggles by quarterbacks that fit Mariota’s style like Johnny Manziel and Robert Griffin III some teams may pass on him as the future of their franchise.

The KC Chiefs are a different story. Mariota could come in and sit behind and learn under Alex Smith for a year. Not having the pressure to start, and having an opportunity to be groomed by Andy Reid who is known as a quarterback guru, is something that would give Mariota the best opportunity possible for him to succeed.

This all assumes that Mariota is even available for the Chiefs when they pick in the first round. There is a very good chance Mariota doesn’t make it anywhere near the Chiefs, but as we have seen in the past, anyone can fall down the draft boards. Let’s take a look at whom the Kansas City Chiefs might select in this 2015 NFL Mock Draft.
