Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu is working his way back from a torn ACL suffered during the AFC Championship win over the Ravens. While he's making good progress overall, Omenihu recently admitted the recovery has been a slow process.

Speaking with Aaron Wilson of KPRC, the 26-year-old opened up about some of the struggles of his rehab. Omenihu is determined to return to the field stronger than before and already has a target date in mind, but he's still got a long way to go before he'll be 100%.

Kansas City ranked second in the NFL in sacks last year with 57 and a healthy Omenihu will once again give the Chiefs one of the league's best lines, no matter what the critics say.

Chiefs DE Charles Omenihu Admits Torn ACL Rehab is 'Slow Process'

"It's going good," Omenihu said regarding his recovery. "Slow process, everybody told me it was going to be like that, but it’s been decent. . . . Honestly, right now, I’m steady, I’m cool. I got to be like this. I kind of keep myself like that, just stay plain and we’ll get to the point where I ramp it up like that.”

Omenihu only played in 11 games in the regular season last year after serving a six-game suspension due to a violation of the NFL's domestic violence policy. He made an immediate impact, notching seven sacks and coming up with a strip-sack of Lamar Jackson in that AFC title matchup.

The Chiefs have every reason to believe this team can become the first in league history to three-peat and Omenihu is confident they can get it done. He's particularly excited about the offensive improvements, saying, "definitely, the offense upgraded."

While he's entering the last year of his two-year deal, Omenihu plans to silence his doubters and earn a large contract, one he hopes comes from Kansas City.

If Omenihu plays the way he did last year, he'll have earned it.
